Bibliography

Mahatma Gandhi believed that anything could be accomplished by non-violence. He spent his life fighting for freedom for Indians all over the world. He saw racial prejudice not only in India, but in South Africa as well. The one accomplishment that separated Gandhi from the rest was his ability not to use violence. He was beaten, thrown around, and even put in jail, but never once did he get angry. He wrote pamphlets, speeches, and led marches throughout India and South Africa to help his fellow Indians to keep their dignity. He devoted his life to freeing Indians from the British and finally on August 15, 1947, his hard work paid off. At last India was an independent country.

Mahatma Gandhi and his peaceful protests to free India from British rule fit this year’s theme of Revolution, Reaction, Reform because he reacted against the British, revolutionized peaceful protesting ability, and reformed the country of India. The British were treating the Indians poorly so Gandhi reacted by starting peaceful protests. This led to a revolution in non-violent resistance, which he kept doing until one day when he reformed India by freeing it from the British and finally making it an independent country. He also reformed the rest of the world by showing everyone that non-violence can win a battle over even the most powerful country in the world.

Starting in the library, I found some books and researched Mahatma Gandhi, and started to write phase one which was the research paper. After hours of work on this part of History Day, I finished and started on Phase two, which was the website. I used Microsoft FrontPage to make my site, which made it easier since I really didn’t know how to make a website, and the help feature of the program made it easier. In a short period of time, I was putting together my website like I had done it for years. I used many parts of my report in the site, but also added a quite a few details to the text. Then I went on to the internet and found pictures of Mahatma Gandhi and maps of Africa and India. I had forgotten to write down the website addresses from where I got the pictures, so it took me a while to create the bibliography. Finally, I put together my website and published it on the internet. Go to http://www.netpopular.com/gandhi.html, to see my beautiful site.
